Emmerson Boyce Bio Send To Friend

Boyce joined Wigan in July 2006, having left Crystal Palace. He signed a four-year deal with the Latics and his experience has proved an important factor in keeping the club in the top flight.

Boyce joined Palace on a free from Luton in July 2004, with his contract having expired at Kenilworth Road.

The defender had previously been a one-club man. He joined thr Hatters back in 1995 on YTS terms before turning pro, having previously turned out for Aylesbury United in the Chiltern Youth league.

Boyce started out as a striker before reverting to defence and the player turned his back on the possibility of a professional career in cricket to concentrate on football.

Boyce became a vital player for Luton, helping them to second place in the Third Division in 2001/02.

Although Luton were eager to keep hold of the Aylesbury-born star when his contract was up at the end of the 2003/04 campaign, there was no shortage of interested parties.

Although Watford, Reading and Nottingham Forest - managed by former Luton boss Joe Kinnear - registered an interest it was Premiership newcomers Palace who won his signature.

Boyce left the club as their Player of the Season, the Players' Player of the Season and the Internet Player of the Season.

Using his versatility well, he was a success at Palace playing in the centre of defence and also play at right-back. He established himself as a favourite with Palace fans and was voted 'Player of the Year' in 2006.

However, Boyce decided to move to the JJB in the summer. Quick, strong and totally committed, Boyce was a huge star of the 2006/07 season and his solid performances saw him narrowly miss out on Player of the Year Award for 2007.
