Bryan Hughes Bio
Send To Friend
The experienced Hughes earned a return to the Premier League in 2007/08 after a superb first season with Hull City with capped off with promotion via the play-offs at Wembley.
A hard working and efficient midfielder, Hughes may not light up the park but his workrate is effective in other areas. In his early career he was prolific from midfield but those days appear to be behind him. He can play in the centre of the park or on the wing.
The player started his career with Wrexham, where he played 128 games after graduating from their trainee scheme. He caught the eye of Birmingham City and in March 1997 he completed a £1million move to St Andrews.
The midfielder was a vital player for the Blues as they were promoted to the Premiership in the 2001/02 through the play-offs.
Hughes left Birmingham in the summer of 2004 after scoring 34 goals for the club in 291 games in seven seasons, joining Charlton Athletic on a free transfer after his deal had expired.
But Hughes struggled to make the same impact in the capital and was released upon their relegation to the Championship in 2007.
The player eventually won a contract with Hull, making his debut in a 3-2 home defeat to Plymouth Argyle and playing 38 League games as the Tigers were promoted.
