Jermaine Jenas Bio
Send To Friend
Midfielder Jermanine Jenas joined Tottenham Hotspur from Newcastle United in August 2005 for an initial fee of £7million, which rose to £9million after Spurs qualified for Europe.
Jenas enjoyed what was arguably the best season of his career in 2007/08 as he won the League Cup with Spurs, returned to the England fold, played in 45 of the club's 57 games in all competitions and scoring six goals.
He was rewarded with a new contract tying him to the White Hart Lane until 2013 and as a result of his growing maturity become the club's vice captain ahead of the 2008/09 season.
An inventive player, full of running and boasting great vision Jenas has shaken of the 'inconsistent' tag that dogged him in his first seasons with Spurs and developed into a match-winning player.
Jenas burst onto the scene with Nottingham Forest as a 17-year-old in January 2001, making his debut against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the FA Cup Third Round. His Football League debut was soon to follow, in the home game against Crystal Palace.
The scouts from the big clubs were soon on the player's trail, and with Forest having severe financial troubles it seemed only a matter of time before he had to be sold.
With just 33 first team appearances under his belt, it was Newcastle who came in for him at the beginning of February 2002. The Magpies agreed a fee of £5million for his services - just beating off late competition from Manchester United and Leeds United.
His full England debut came when he played the second half of the friendly with Australia in February 2003, and he put in an impressive display.
Although his 2003/04, when Jenas made his 100th appearance for Newcastle, was not as impressive as his previous campaign and his Newcastle career took a nosedive in 2004/05.
Jenas played 152 games for Newcastle, scoring 12 goals.
