Argentinian winger Jonas Gutierrez joined Newcastle from Spanish first division club Real Mallorca for an undisclosed fee.

The midfielder, who is 25 on Saturday, has signed a five-year contract after buying out the remainder of his contract at Mallorca.

Jonas has been nicknamd Spiderman for the mask he puts on for goal celebrations, will join his new team-mates later this month.

The right-sided player had previously been linked with a £10 million move to Portsmouth.

Gutierrez began his career with Velez Sarsfield in Argentina and won the league title in 2005 before heading for Spain.

He was capped for the first time at senior international level against France in February of 2007.
