Blumer Elano Bio Send To Friend

Many fans were left wondering who Blumer Elano was when he signed for Manchester City in the summer of 2007.

However, as soon as the season started few were in doubt as he was the star of the Premier League in the opening months.

With superb vision and sublime passing to match, Elano emerged as one of the finds of the season under Sven Goran Eriksson. Granted, he appeared to feel the pace of the English game in the second half of the campaign but his quality was there for all to see.

A star back in Brazil as one of the players who revived Santos, Pele's old club, Elano starred as the club won Brazilian championships and reached the final of the Copa Libertadores in 2003.

After an odd move to Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk, in 2005, he was called into new coach Dunga's Brazil side and was an ever-present in Brazil's build-up to the 2007 Copa America, and indeed in the tournament itself as Brazil collected their eighth South American championship.

A creative midfielder who can play at the base of the engine room or behind the strikers, he cost Sven Goran Eriksson £8m in August 2007 and he made his debut at West Ham in the opening match of the 2007/8 season.

He won City's Goal of the Season for a thunderous free-kick against Newcastle in September.

Such was his versatility he even filled in at right-back at times.
