Glenn Whelan Bio
Send To Friend
Whelan began his career at Manchester City but it wasn't until he joined Sheffield Wednesday on a free transfer that he really began to make a name for himself.
During nearly four-years at The Owls he helped the club to promotion in 2004, winning the man of the match award in the League One play-off final against Hartlepool at the Millennium Stadium, and added a number of Player of the Year awards in his last full season at the club in 2006/07.
The former Republic of Ireland Under 21 international signed for Stoke in the January transfer window in 2008 and after some eye catching performances for the Potters he made his senior international debut against Serbia in May 2008.
Despite beginning his career at Man City Whelan only managed one appearance for the Premier League club: in August 2003, when he replaced Paul Bosvelt for the final 17 minutes of the 2-0 UEFA Cup victory over Total Network Solutions.
