Richard Cresswell Bio
Send To Friend
This former England Under 21 international came to the fore during a prolific season with York City in 1998 but then endured something of a nomadic career before settling at Stoke City in August 2007.
The striker's travels took him to Sheffield Wednesday for £950,000, where he scored the winning goal against Liverpool at the end of the 98/99 season, before moving to Leicester City for £750,000 in September 2001.
His most settled spell came at Preston North End, who he joined for £500,000 in July 2001, and enjoyed his best goal return of his career in the 2004/05 season when he scored a total of 23 goals in 52 games.
His partnership with Ricardo Fuller helped Preston to reach the Championship Play-offs, where they were beaten by West Ham United, and he was re-united with his former strike partner when he was snapped up by Stoke City.
Cresswell's exploits at Preston earned him £1.15millon switch to Leeds United but injury and below par performances blighted his time at Elland Road and after only 9 goals in 38 games he was allowed to leave.
The physical striker joined Stoke in time to help them to promotion from the Championship, scoring 11 goals en route to the Premier League.
