Graham Alexander Bio Send To Friend

Veteran defender Alexander was an integral member of the Burnley side which earned promotion into the Premier League in 2008-09.

Despite being well into his 30s, the player missed just three league fixtures and weighed in with nine goals.

Alexander began his career with Scunthorpe United, playing 159 games for the club before moving on to Luton Town where he played 152 matches.

The player joined Preston in 1999, the start of an eight-year association with PNE during which he became club captain and regular penalty taker. He made 400 appearances for the club, scoring 63 goals. He actually turned down Bunrley in favour of Preston.

It was something of a surprise that he chose to join local rivals Burnley upon leaving Preston in the summer of 2007 and he joined the Clarets for just £100,000, helping them to the top flight.

Alexander is a full Scotland international, qualifying through his father, making his debut in 2002 in a 2-1 friendly defeat to Nigeria at Pittodrie Stadium. He has gone on to make over 40 caps for his country and was an important member of the 2010 World Cup qualifying squad.
