Marlon King Bio
Send To Friend
Marlon King's professional career was halted in October 2009 when he was found guilty of groping a young woman in a nightclub and then breaking her nose when she spurned his advances.
The striker was sentenced to 18 months in prison and immediately sacked by his club, Wigan Athletic.
Much-travelled King had spent the first half of the 2008-09 season on loan with Hull City, and it was during this period that the incident ocurred while he was on a night out in London.
Originally with Barnet before joining Gillingham in 2000, King wasted little time in establishing himself as the club's main striker.
His career was nearly ended after he was sent to prison the first time in 2002 for being caught by police in a stolen BMW, but Gillingham stuck by him and he was back in the starting line-up almost as soon as he was released.
Leaving the Gills in 2003 to join Nottingham Forest, King went on loan to Leeds and then Watford, before he made the move to Vicarage Road permanently.
In 2005-06 he finished top scorer in the Championship as Watford were promoted. But his season in the top flight was disrupted by injury as a knee problem kept him out of action for six months. Without him, the Hornets were relegated.
In January 2008, Watford sold their prized asset to Wigan for an undisclosed fee but he found first-team chances limited at the JJB leading to the move to Hull City.
Having netted five times for the Tigers in their impressive start to Premier League life, King moved to Middlesbrough for the second half of the 2008-09 season on loan.
King was a bit-part player at Wigan in 2009-10 before he was jailed, and then sacked by the Latics.
