Phil Jagielka Bio Send To Friend

Everton signed utility man Phil Jagielka from relegated Sheffield United in the summer of 2007 for £4million.

'Jags' made his Everton debut as a substitute against Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane and made his full debut at Bolton.

Once Joseph Yobo headed off the African Cup of Nations in January 2008 he formed a formidable central defensive partnership with Joleon Lescott and retained his place when Yobo returned, with Lescott moving to left-back

Having been released as Schoolboy by Everton Jagielka came through the youth system at Bramall Lane to become one of the first names on the team sheet for manager Neil Warnock.

Boss Warnock continually spoke highly of a youngster who made his league debut against Swindon Town in the final game of the 1999/2000 season.

Composed in his usual position of centre-midfield, the young Mancunian also doubles as a decent ball-playing centre-back.

He has distinguished himself throughout his time with the Blades, notably in the 2002/03 season, where he established himself as a regular first team player, earning 200 caps for the club and scoring 14 goals.

He played in all of the league matches in both 2004-05 and 2005-06 and was one of the star performers, including a stint as goalkeeper against Arsenal, during the Blades Premiership campaign in 2006/07.

He was always likely to leave Sheffield United following the drop and Jags joined a number of astute signings that David Moyes has made from relegated teams.

At Everton Jagielka made rapid progression and he was called-up by England manager Fabio Capello for a couple of end-of-season friendlies. He made his international debut as a second-half substitute in England's 3-0 win over Trinidad and Tobago.
