Charles N'Zogbia Bio
Send To Friend
N'Zogbia finally got his wish through transfer away from Newcastle on deadline day in February 2009, moving to Wigan Athletic for an undisclosed fee with Ryan Taylor moving in the opposite direction.
The French winger had often spoken of his desire to leave Tyneside but spent almost five years at St James' Park before finally moving on.
Newcastle had snatched N'Zogbia from Le Havre in controversial circumstances in August 2004.Le Havre lodged an official complaint with the French Football Federation and FIFA in an attempt to prevent him joining the Magpies.
Although the French FA did refuse to sanction the transfer, FIFA ruled in United's favour.
The midfielder joined Le Havre's training centre when he was 11 but, aged 18, turned his back on a two-year professional contract with them in favour of Newcastle.
Newcastle only had to pay a compensation fee of £250,000 to get their man.
His ability to play along the left flank has meant he is often played in a left-back position he clearly loathes. He made his debut as a substitute in the 3-0 victory over Blackburn Rovers in mid-September 2004.
N'Zogbia played 154 games for Newcastle, scoring nine goals.
