Fraizer Campbell Bio Send To Friend

Campbell signed for Sunderland in July 2009 in a £3.5m deal, snubbing the chance of a return to Hull City.

The striker had just spent a disappointing season on loan at Tottenham Hotspur as part of the deal which took Dimitar Berbatov to Old Trafford, starting just one Premier League game.

Hull City showed their hand first but the player stalled on a move to the KC Stadium. He then impressed at the European Under-21 Championship, Steve Bruce lodged a bid and the forward opted for the Stadium of Light.

Campbell came into the limelight in the 2007-08 season when on a season-long loan to the Tigers, proving to be one of their star performers as they reached the Premier League for the first time in their history.

He had made his Manchester United debut before moving to the KC, coming on as a substitute in a 1-0 Premier League defeat at Manchester City. After another appearance from the bench in the Carling Cup he headed to Hull in October.

With lightening pace, a good finish and strength on the ball, Campbell looks to be perfect for the top flight.

The player told the official Manchester United website the following: 'My pace is my main asset, and I like to think I have good movement off the ball. I'm a quick forward and I prefer to play the main striker role.

'I was first spotted for United when I was ten. I was playing for my local Sunday league team in Huddersfield. The scouts watched me for a few games and then offered me a trial.'

He scored 15 goals for the Tigers in their promotion season, and manager Phil Brown was desperate to get him back to the club for the top flight campaign but Campbell was determined to try and break through at United.

Hull then made a £7million bid for him before the summer transfer window closed and a host of other clubs, including Wigan Athletic, were also on his tail. He eventually moved to Tottenham Hotspur for 2008/09 as part of the deal which took Dimitar Berbatov to Old Trafford. Campbell had to be content with reserve team football following a change of management at Spurs.
