Hameur Bouazza Bio
Send To Friend
Hameur Bouazza joined Fulham from Watford in August 2007 on a four-year deal for an undisclosed fee understood to be in the region of £3 million and which could rise to £4 million.
Bouazza had begun his career at Watford in 2003 but failed to get a consistent run in the first team with players ahead of him in the pecking order and lengthy speck on the sidelines with a broken metatarsal.
He was loaned to Swindon during the 2005/06 season where he only managed 2 goals in 11 games and returned to Watford for the 2006/07 season as the Hornets made the break into the Premier League.
Despite a slow start to his Watford career while operating on the left flank, Bouazza was one of Watford's star performers in a dismal season for the club that saw them relegated.
Impressed with Bouazza's strength and skill on the ball, then Fulham boss Lawrie Sanchez offered the player a chance to remain in the top flight, hoping that his attacking flair would suit the style Sanchez intended to play but both the player and manager failed to impress leading to loan moves away.
The Algerian winger struggled for fitness in the second half of the 2007/08 season and was linked with a move away from Craven Cottage under new boss Roy Hodgson, with Espanyol and Osasuna both interested in luring Bouazza to Spain, while Wigan and Charlton were thought to have made enquiries as to his availability.
He eventually joined Charlton on loan for the first half of the season, scoring four times in 27 appearances. The player's loan switched to Birmingham City for the second half of the campaign, after Fulham had recalled him in January 2009.
