Nick Colgan Bio Send To Friend

Experienced stopper Colgan joined Sunderland in the summer of 2008 to act as back-up to Craig Gordon, Marton Fulop and Darren Ward.

He began his career with Drogheda in Ireland before being snapped up by Chelsea, where he played just one game before moving on. While on the books at Chelsea he had five loan spells though this was simply as back-up at Crewe Alexandra, Grimsby Town and Millwall. He played five games for both Brentford and Reading.

Colgan signed for AFC Bournemouth on a free transfer in the summer of 2008 but didn't play a match before moving to Hibernian the following summer.

He finally found a first team berth north of the border, playing 147 games at Easter Road, before he fell out of favour and was loaned to Stockport County for the 2003/04 season.

Colgan moved to Barnsley on a free in the summer of 2004 and though he struggled to get in the team at first - he spent a month on loan at Dundee United - he went on to play 113 games for the South Yorkshire side before leaving on a free for Ipwich Town in January 2008.

He didn't play a game for Ipswich before joining Sunderland on a free transfer.
