Hossam Ghaly Bio
Send To Friend
Hossam Ghaly joined Tottenham Hotspur from Feyenoord Rotterdam for an undisclosed fee on transfer deadline day in January 2006.
Ghaly, a full Egypt international, began his career with local club Biala before moving to Al Ahly of Cairo and then to the Eredivisie with Feyenoord in August 2003.
A favourite of former Spurs boss Martin Jol, despite some displays that had observers questioning his football brain, he signed a deal with Tottenham to run until the summer of 2010.
Ahead of the 2007/08 season the player, who has cruelly been labelled 'Hossam Ghastly' by some unimpressed Spurs supporters, was set for a £3million move to Birmingham City. However the Blues pulled out of the deal as a result of Ghaly's objections to the club's training methods.
The arrival of Juande Ramos as Tottenham manager midway through the 2007/08 season proved to be bad news for Gahly, who was already struggled to find a regular place in the Spurs starting XI.
In January 2008 Derby County signed Ghaly on loan until the end of the season. A permanent deal was mooted, but the player opted to fight for his place at Spurs, rather than join the relegated side.
