Collins John Bio
Send To Friend
Fulham signed Liberian-born striker Collins John from Dutch side FC Twente Enschede at the end of January 2004 for an undisclosed fee.
Arriving as an exciting striker with a fine turn of pace and a powerful shot, John was only 18 when he moved to the Premier League. He made an immediate impact scoring four goals in three games in the remainder of the season.
Four goals in 13 starts was John's return for the 2004/05 season, but with 11 goals in the 2005/06 season, he finished as the club's top scorer and continued to impress.
However, after starting six of the first seven games in 2006/07, he lost his place and failed to win it back again. Short of confidence, the striker seemed to be on his way out of Craven Cottage, but when an offer from Watford came in, he rejected it to stay with the club.
In October 2007 John joined Leicester City on a three-month loan deal; he returned to Craven Cottage having played 11 times and scoring twice. In January 2008 John went to Watford on loan to the end of the season with the option of a permanent move thereafter.
However, the striker struggled with form and fitness and after just three starts and two substitute appearance John returned to Fulham in April 2008 after tearing a thigh muscle.
As a consequence his future remains anything but certain heading into the 2008/09 season.
John joined Fulham as Twente's top scorer, having notched nine goals in 18 Eredivisie games. He began his career with little known Dutch outfit DES Nijverdal as a midfielder, moving to Twente in the summer of 2002.
