Berner joined Blackburn Rovers in January 2007 for a nominal fee from Swiss club FC Basel after a successful loan period.
He played his first and only Premiership game ahead of the 2007/08 season on February 10 as Rovers took on Everton.
An experienced player having also played for Grasshopper Zürich in Switzerland and Germany's SC Freiburg Berner is Swiss international who represented his country at the 2004 UEFA European Championships in Portugal.
