Ibrahima Sonko Bio
Send To Friend
Sonko joined Hull City in September 2009, moving from Stoke on a season-long loan.
The centre-back had previously played for AS Saint-Étienne and Grenoble Foot 38 in France, before he made a name for himself in England firstly with Brentford and then with Reading.
Sonko joined Reading in 2004 and gained cult status at the club after proving himself to be a solid central defender with great aerial ability.
The Royals' 2005-06 promotion season saw Sonko establish himself in the team and he quickly became a fans' favourite, getting the nickname 'Superman' for his prestigious leaps into the air to powerfully head the ball away.
The Senegal international moved to Stoke City in August 2008 in a £2 million deal, but he struggled to make an impression at the Britannia Stadium.
After making just 14 appearances during the Potters' first season in the Premier League the defender agreed to go on a season-long loan to Hull City for the 2009-10 campaign. He made his debut for the Tigers in a 4-1 defeat at Sunderland.
