Young-Pyo Lee Bio Send To Friend

Tottenham Hotspur signed left sided full-back Lee Young-Pyo from PSV Eindhoven on transfer deadline day in August 2005.

Although the South Korea international moved to White Hart Lane for an undisclosed fee, it was widely reported that he had a £1.36million release clause in his contract.

The transfer was made even more complicated by a dispute between club and player over his deal at the Philips Stadion. Lee believed his contract expired at the end of the 2005/06 season while PSV claimed he was bound to them until the summer of 2007.

An immediate hit at Spurs Lee began brightly but his form fluctuated over the course of the season.

At the beginning of 2006/07 season, his second term in the Premier League, Lee moved to right full-back due to Benoit Assou-Ekotto's impressive pre-season performance and an injury to regular right-back Paul Stalteri.

Since then Lee's future as a regular starter has been in doubt as a result of injuries and the addition of rival left-sided defenders like Pascal Chimbonda and Gareth Bale, it would seem a squad role beckons ahead of the 2008/09 season.

Lee was signed for PSV from Korean club Anyang Cheetahs by Guus Hiddink after the Dutchman led Lee and the South Koreans to the semi-finals of the 2002 World Cup.

Under Hiddink Lee was an integral part of the PSV's success helping the club win the Dutch title and reach the Champions League semi-finals in 2004/05.
