Steven Whittaker Bio Send To Friend

A versatile defender or midfielder, Whittaker is a useful addition to the Rangers squad as he can play in a variety of positions.

In 2001, Whittaker joined the likes of Kenny Miller and Derek Riordan in signing for Hibernian from Hutchison Vale Boys Club but he took a while to make his mark on the side.

He was given more of a chance by 2004, but was an unused subsitutite when Hibernian lost the 2004 Scottish League Cup Final.

Used more by new boss Tony Mowbray in a right-back role, he became a regular in the Scotland Under-21 team and helped Hibs to a third place league finish in the league.

Whittaker completed a £2m move to Rangers in August 2007, signing a five-year contract and was soon pushing for a first-team place. While he has never been a regular in the side, his presence in the squad is useful and he has also chipped in with his fair share of goals.

He made his debut for the full national side in August 2009, in a 4-0 defeat to Norway.
