Tal Ben-Haim Bio
Send To Friend
Ben Haim was once seen as on of the Premier League's most promising central defenders, but after joining Chelsea
in 2007 he turned into a footballing nomad.
The Israel international moved to England in July 2004, signing for Bolton for a small, undisclosed fee believed to be in the region of £150,000. He moved to the Premier League as a championship winner with Maccabi and made his Bolton debut as a late substitute in a 4-1 thrashing of Charlton Athletic.
And he soon carved out a reputation as a tough but calm figure at the back for Bolton and became one of the first names on the teamsheet for Allardyce.
He was soon being linked with Chelsea, and moved to London on a free transfer. Tal Ben Haim played 110 games for Bolton, scoring just the one goal.
Ben Haim's Chelsea career was always doomed after just one season in which he struggled and was then relegated to the reserves.
The Isaeli international left Chelsea after just one season, joining Manchester City for a fee believed to be in the region of £3 million. He played just 24 games for Chelsea.
But his move to Eastlands also failed to be a success. After just eight Premier League starts, and a total of 15 appearances, he joined Sunderland on loan in February 2009. He was reuinted with his coach from Bolton, Ricky Sbragia, who was in charge at the Stadium of Light. After just five appearances he returned to City.
Portsmouth signed him in the summer of 2009 for an undisclosed fee, making his debut in a 2-3 home defeats at the hands of former club Bolton.
