Bannan was handed a two-year professional contract in July 2008 and is highly-rated by the Aston Villa youth team staff.
The diminutive playmaker has earned rave reviews for a string of eye-catching displays and will be looking to break into the first-team.
The Scot was named Player of the Tournament at both the Hong Kong Sevens and the club's tour of Germany and despite his size, has shown himself to have a bright future.
He made his debut for the club as a substitute in a 3-1 UEFA Cup loss to Hamburg in December 2008 before making his first start, also in the UEFA Cup, as Villa lost 2-0 at CSKA Moscow in February 2009.
The player got his first taste of English league football when joining Derby County on loan in March 2009, coming on as a half-time sub in a 4-2 defeat at Sheffield United.
He was also loaned to Blackpool in November 2009.
