Charles Itandje Bio
Send To Friend
French goalkeeper Charles Itandje once had a trial at Gerard Houllier's Liverpool but it was Rafa Benitez who eventually brought him to Anfield from Lens in 2007.
The former France Under-21 began his career with Red Star 93, a Paris club founded by Jules Rimet, before Lens snapped him up after a single season.
He was brought to Liverpool as cover for Pepe Reina after Jerzy Dudek headed to Real Madrid and Scott Carson went out on a season-long loan to Aston Villa.
Itandje made his debut for Liverpool in a Carling Cup match against Reading in September 2007 and continued to play a part in the cup competitions, making seven appearances.
He never played another match after that and his Anfield career was ended when he appeared to jokingly nudge a team-mate during a memorial service for the Hillsborough disaster in April 2009. He was loaned to Greek side Kavala for 2009-10.
