A tall, left-sided central defender, Wilson has plenty of potential and captained the exceptionally successful U-19 side at Rangers before making the breakthrough in 2009-10.

One of the brightest young prospects in Scotland, he formed a great partnership with veteran David Weir and was hailed as the next Alan Hansen by the press. He was voted the Scottish FWA Young Player of the Year award, the Scottish PFA Young Player of the Year award and also picked up Rangers' Young Player of the Year gong.

Attracting attention from England, he chose to move to Liverpool in July 2010 for a fee that could rise to £5 million.

Strengths: Excellent in the air, his reading of the game and physical strength are also impressive for one so young.

Weaknesses: Lacks experience at the top level and could be caught out by the pace of the game.

Career high: Making the step up to the Rangers first-team in 2009-10.

Career low: Sent off in the 2010 Scottish League Cup final - although Rangers did go on to win it.

Style: Strong, composed, a talent for the future.

Quotes: "He's not the type of lad that gets carried away or starts to think he has achieved more than he's achieved. He has kept his feet on the ground, he listens and, hopefully, he will go from strength to strength.'' David Weir.

Trivia: He became the youngest ever Rangers player to appear in the Champions League when he turned out against Unirea Urziceni on October 20, 2009. Wilson was aged just 17 years and 312 days.
