September 6, 2010

Velez Sarsfield joined Arsenal Sarandi at the top of the Apertura table as Santiago Silva's second-half penalty earned them a 2-1 home win over River Plate on Sunday.

Juan Martinez put Velez in front in the 32nd minute but River were level four minutes before the break through Diego Buonanotte.

Velez made it four wins from their first five games when Silva converted a 58th-minute penalty, inflicting on River their first defeat of the campaign.

Also on Sunday, Lanus maintained their unbeaten start with a 2-0 victory away to Gimnasia La Plata. Mario Regueiro gave them a 47th-minute lead and Silvio Romero's 70th-minute effort wrapped up the points. Lanus have now won two and drawn three of their opening five matches.

Ten-man Banfield claimed a 1-1 draw at home to Tigre and Huracan came from a goal down to win 2-1 away to Quilmes as substitute Luciano Nieto netted the decisive second.
