Kayal completes move to Celtic

July 29, 2010

Celtic have announced the signing of Israel midfielder Beram Kayal on a four year contract from Maccabi Haifa.

Kayal, 22, will be unveiled at the club's Lennoxtown training ground on Thursday as Celtic look to lift the gloom following their 3-0 Champions League defeat by Sporting Braga.

Kayal, who has won 13 caps for Israel, becomes Neil Lennon's seventh summer signing. He follows Cha Du-Ri, Charlie Mulgrew, Joe Ledley and Efrain Juarez - who all played in the defeat in Portugal - as well as strikers Daryl Murphy and Gary Hooper.

Meanwhile, Celtic have been linked with a loan move for Spartak Moscow goalkeeper Stipe Pletikosa.

Pletikosa has been in talks over a move to Tottenham Hotspur, where he would act as understudy to Gomes. But the chance of first team football at Parkhead, who sold Artur Boruc to Fiorentina, could prove more attractive.

His agent Marko Najetilic said: "Stipe has a definite offer from Tottenham. However he knows all about Celtic and that would be something of real interest to him. But there has been no official offer made by Celtic to me. We hope to have agreed his next move within the next 72 hours. It could be an interesting couple of days."
