Joleon Lescott admits he has to repay Manchester City after a ''frustrating'' first season at the club following a £22 million move from Everton last summer.

Lescott spent much of the season on the sidelines, but was also criticised for some inconsistent performances that saw him miss out on a place in Fabio Capello's England squad for the World Cup.

Now under more pressure as City have signed defender Jerome Boateng and Aleksandar Kolarov in the transfer window, Lescott admits he has a point to prove.

"Last season was frustrating," said Lescott. "I worked so hard to get the move and I feel I didn't repay the club as much as I would have liked. Obviously the injuries didn't help but I am fit now and I believe I can repay the club if I am given the opportunities.

"I felt the goals of the club and my ambitions were in a similar time bracket and so that's why I opted to make the switch and it is no different now. We are still signing great players, we've got a great squad and if we can add to it who knows what we can achieve? I believe I can be a major part of the team. I didn't want to come here and win things but not play. I think I can play every game."

Lescott insists he has not sought assurances over his future from manager Roberto Mancini, after reports suggested he may miss out on the 25-man squad for this season.

"I don't think any player needs to go to the manager for reassurance but if you believe you are training well enough and playing well but are not then given the opportunities to play, that's when you will speak to him," he said.
