Switzerland boss Ottmar Hitzfeld will not replace Roy Hodgson at Fulham, after revealing that he plans to see out his contract with the Swiss, before retiring from management in 2012.

Hitzfeld had been heavily linked with the vacancy at Fulham over the past few weeks, and was even reported to have held talks with the club's hierarchy.

But the former Bayern Munich manager poured cold water on the speculation by announcing that he plans to oversee Switzerland's Euro 2012 qualifying campaign, before calling it a day.

"I've now got another two years in Switzerland - and they will be my last two years in management," Hitzfeld said.

The 61-year-old guided Switzerland to a shock World Cup victory over Spain last month, but after defeat to Chile and a draw with Honduras, his side were eliminated at the group stage.

Fulham's search for a new manager continues, with their shortlist of candidates thought to include former England manager Sven Goran-Eriksson, Ajax boss Martin Jol, Alan Curbishley and Bob Bradley.
