Inzaghi targets title for Beckham and Nesta

March 22, 2010

AC Milan veteran Filippo Inzaghi has urged his team-mates to swiftly get over the disappointment of not going top at the weekend and push on for the Scudetto. And he said the Milan squad wants to win the title for injured stars David Beckham and Alessandro Nesta.

The Rossoneri failed to take full advantage of Inter Milan's draw against Palermo the day before as they were held to a draw at home to Napoli and missed the opportunity to leapfrog their city rivals to the top of the Serie A table.

Inzaghi insists they must put yesterday's result firmly behind them and concentrate on picking up three points at Parma on Wednesday.

``A bit of disappointment because of the draw is normal, but (it) must disappear quickly,'' he said. ``We were all aware of what it would have meant to win, but the team gave their all and we were facing a tough opponent like Napoli who have also troubled Inter.

``All the squad really wanted to win and surpass Inter in the standings to then dedicate the victory to (David) Beckham and (Alessandro) Nesta.

``Nevertheless we are still happy for the squad's display, we gave everything and the San Siro fans realised that and were with us for the whole game. If we continue to play like this we're get more joy.

``Now I am already focused on Parma because that will be a key match. Then Inter will face a tough test away to Roma next weekend while Milan play Lazio at home.''

Inzaghi started his first game for several months, after a long period on the bench. And the 36-year-old grasped his opportunity, scoring Milan's equaliser to remind Leonardo what he had been missing out on.

Reports have suggested Inzaghi is considering leaving Milan in the summer in a bid to secure first-team football but the former Italy striker claims he will still be at the San Siro next year.

``I have made a pact with Galliani to stay longer in Milan,'' he said. ``For this shirt I would do anything and for my part I always try to make myself ready.

``I am happy to have returned to playing from the start, I tried to exploit all the assists from my team-mates to the best of my abilities. I am satisfied because physically I am well, it was a long time that I hadn't played, but I have still always felt great affection around me.

``Also the banner that the fans dedicated to me was a great testament of respect.''

Inzaghi list two Champions League titles, one Scudetto and a Coppa Italia among the number of trophies the World Cup winner has won since his move from Juventus in 2001.
