Velez Sarsfield salvage late draw to stay fourth

March 21, 2010

Velez Sarsfield consolidated their grip on fourth place in the Argentinian Clausura after drawing 1-1 at Newell's Old Boys.

Newell's went ahead through Rolando Schiavi's 62nd-minute penalty before Pablo Lima levelled for Velez five minutes from time.

Elsewhere, San Lorenzo and Colon Santa Fe drew 2-2 in a game that saw both teams finish with 10 men. Facundo Bertoglio opened the scoring for Colon after four minutes before Alejandro Gomez levelled on 12 minutes.

German Rivarola was sent off for Colon after 31 minutes but that did not stop the visitors taking the lead after 45 minutes through Eduardo Coudet.

Gomez levelled again a minute from time to secure a share of the spoils before the striker was sent off just moments later for a second bookable offence.

Lanus ran out 1-0 winners over Racing Club, Sebastian Blanco bagging the only goal 17 minutes from time, while Argentinos Juniors and Tigre played out a 1-1 draw.

On Friday, third-placed Estudiantes were 3-1 winners over bottom side Atletico Tucuman, while Huracan defeated Chacarita Juniors 2-0.
