Advocaat in frame to replace Hiddink

March 18, 2010

AZ Alkmaar boss Dick Advocaat has denied being approached by Russia to succeed Guus Hiddink as manager, but believes he is on the shortlist.

Hiddink is to leave his role at the end of his current contract and will join Turkey, while Advocaat's success with Zenit St Petersburg has been widely noted by the Russian Football Federation.

Advocaat, who is also boss of Belgium, does acknowledge that he is in contention for the Russia job.

"I understand that my name on the list," the former Netherlands and South Korea manager said in De Telegraaf.

"That makes sense, because with Zenit St Petersburg I had a great job."
