Uruguayan side Nacional claimed a crucial win as they saw off Argentinean champions Banfield 2-0 to climb to the top of Copa Libertadores Group Six.
Banfield lost their first match in this round of fixtures as the unbeaten Nacional moved onto eight points to put them one above Banfield.
Sebastian Coates put Nacional ahead with a header after 34 minutes before Gonzalo Godoy wrapped up the win seven minutes later.
In the same group, a brace from Jared Borgetti helped Mexico's Morelia avoid elimination as they secured a 2-1 win over Deportivo Cuenca of Ecuador.
The Mexico international striker opened the scoring with a header in the 19th minute before he beat keeper Esteban Dreer with a right-footed shot eight minutes later. Jorge Ladines hit the consolation with 14 minutes to go.
Morelia have four points so far, one more than Cuenca, who dropped to the bottom of the group standings with two matches remaining.
In Chile, a last-gasp goal from Santiago Silva earned ten-man Argentinean side Velez Sarsfield a point from their trip to Colo Colo.
A mistake in defence by Gaston Diaz and Sebastian Dominguez allowed Esteban Paredes to open the scoring for the Chilean side 12 minutes into the second half.
Things got difficult for Velez when Victor Zapata was sent off two minutes later, but a strike from Silva in stoppage time meant Ricardo Gareca's side were able to consolidate their lead in Group Seven.
"We tried to win on a very difficult pitch. That's why I am happy," Velez coach Hugo Tocalli said. "Even with ten men, in the second half we ran a lot and managed to equalise in injury time. It was the prize for Velez's will."
In Peru, Juan Aurich came back from a goal down to defeat compatriots Alianza Lima 4-2. Alianza remained leaders of Group Three with nine points - three above their conquerors - but lost their unbeaten record.
Joel Sanchez had put Alianza ahead after two minutes, but Roberto Guizasola levelled after 24. Luis Tejada, Reymond Mando and Pedro Ascoy secured Juan Aurich's win, while Roberto Ovelar netted a consolation.
