Rafael Benitez has admitted there is little chance of Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamakh joining the club this summer.

Chamakh favours Arsenal move

Chamakh, 26, is out of contract in the summer, and previous reports had suggested Liverpool had already agreed a deal to bring him to Anfield at the end of the season.

However, after the player revealed this week that he wanted to join Arsenal, Benitez has now confirmed a deal is unlikely. He said: "I think that we will not sign him, but I will not say [any more]."

Arsene Wenger denied suggestions Chamakh was set to join Arsenal earlier on Wednesday in his press conference.

"I believe he talks to many clubs - what he is entitled to do," Wenger said. "He is free to sign a pre-contract. He is free to sign where he wants but I cannot interfere in that."
