Wigan have confirmed that left-back Erik Edman has left the club ahead of an expected move to Helsingborg.

Edman, 31, is behind Maynor Figueroa in the pecking order at Wigan and endured a torrid time when he was selected to face Tottenham in the team's 9-1 defeat in November.

Helsingborg, Edman's first club, had announced the player's return over the weekend and claimed he had agreed a five-year contract with the club, and that deals looks set to be officially confirmed.

Edman's contract at the DW Stadium was due to expire this summer and it has now been cancelled by mutual consent.
