Roy Hodgson steered Fulham to the Europa League last season.

Hodgson has been an excellent appointment for Fulham, who turned to the former Blackburn, Inter Milan and Switzerland manager to lead them away from relegation in the 2007-08 season.

In the following campaign, Hodgson secured a place in the Europa League when finishing seventh in the Premier League table and has since been linked with the manager's jobs at the Swedish and Norwegian national sides.

However, Hodgson opted to remain at Craven Cottage and is now on the brink of extending his contract, which expires at the end of the current season.

"It wasn't a difficult discussion," Hodgson told the Evening Standard. "We are basically in agreement and I've got to say it was very easy to come to that agreement.

"It seems that everyone is keen for me to stay and I've always made it perfectly clear that I'm happy to stay. I've never made any secret of the fact that I'm happy at Fulham and I'm enjoying the job here. It is just a matter now of putting the contract discussions that we have already had onto paper."

Defender Brede Hangeland also looks set to sign a new deal and Hodgson said the ability to hold onto key stars was an important part of his decision to stay.

"It's been sorted out and my information is that we will both sign very, very shortly," he said. "I'm delighted. It's been one of the factors for me as well.

"We have spent two years working very hard putting a team together here and working with the group of players. If I'm going to stay, I'm hoping some of these players stay as well and give us success."
