David James is hoping to be England's No.1 in South Africa
There have been concerns over James, 39, in recent months as he has suffered a succession of injuries. He has not started a game for England since April, and needs to prove his fitness to Fabio Capello before next year's World Cup in South Africa.
Capello said this month he would only consider players who are fit and playing regularly for inclusion in his squad, adding he thought James had a "problem" with his fitness despite showing good form. However, James is confident that he will return to action sooner rather than later.
"I had a scan this morning and it's just a minor tear, so in some respects I'm happy," he told Talksport. "We thought it could be worse."
