Kinnear insists he is now "fit and well"

Kinnear, who suffered heart problems during his time at St James' Park, was linked with a return to the Championship club in August but remains out of the game following the official expiry of his contract in May.

And, while he is a former Republic of Ireland international and dreams of leading the country of his birth, he says he is now "fit and well and raring to go" and would be very interested in holding talks about succeeding George Burley.

"When I left Tottenham, I moved on abroad and my first job abroad was as manager of India," Kinnear told Sky Sports News. "I was out there for two years, so I started off with an international side.

"I missed out on, I think, two occasions to be the manager of Ireland, which would always have been a dream job for me. But sure, why not? I'll throw my hat in the ring. If they felt they wanted to interview me, I'd be more than happy to go along and talk."

Meanwhile, Argentina legend Ossie Ardiles has become the latest manager to throw his hat into the ring for the Scotland job. The World Cup winner, who also applied for the Aberdeen job in the summer, said: "I would love to manage Scotland and I could turn them around.

"Scotland's squad has lost their fight and unity. That was obvious in the 3-0 loss to Wales because they looked lost in that game. If I was Scotland manager I could get that back, and have them fighting for the cause again.''
