Brazilian forward Julio Baptista could be on his way back to North London.

According to reports in Italy, Roma are keen on Spurs' wantaway striker Roman Pavlyuchenko and are ready to offer Baptista in return for the Russian.

But Herminio Menendez told romannews.eu: "There is no truth in these reports claiming he is set for an exchange in January.

"Julio is currently away with the national side. Any possible discussion is postponed until the future.''

The former Arsenal forward, who scored twice against Spurs in the 2007 Carling Cup semi-final, has been linked with a move away from the Stadio Olimpico since the summer.

Baptista scored nine goals in 27 league appearances for the Giallorossi last season. However, the 28-year-old has struggled in his second campaign in Rome and has yet to find the back of the net in five Serie A appearances.
