World Cup-bound Paraguay crash to Qatar

November 14, 2009

Two goals from Brazil-born Fabio Cesar Montesin gave Qatar a 2-0 win over South Africa-bound Paraguay in a friendly international played in France on Friday.

Paraguay had the better of the first half but Qatar opened the scoring 13 minutes into the second period when Montesin slotted home after Magid Hassan's shot came back off the bar.

Paraguay tried to react and created a couple of chances, but 11 minutes from time Montesin curled in a superb free-kick to seal the win.

Paraguay qualified for the 2010 World Cup after finishing third in the CONMEBOL zone, while Qatar failed to come through the Asian zone and now turn their attentions to the 2011 Asian Cup, which they will host.
