Sol Campbell: Eager to play again
Campbell is currently prohibited from moving clubs and has claimed that Notts County are withholding his registration following his decision to leave the League Two side after making only one appearance. A Football League disciplinary commission will hear the case on December 10.
Campbell told ESPN Soccernet: "I have had talks with Chris Hughton and if all works out, I would be happy to sign for Newcastle United."
With his fiancee Fiona hailing from Northumberland, Campbell would ideally like to be playing for his adopted Geordies by Christmas. He added: "My case with Notts County is scheduled for December 10, but it could easily be resolved before then. The rest is up to Newcastle, although nothing is signed yet."
ESPN Soccernet broke the story that Campbell's number one choice was Newcastle, and Hughton admitted on Wednesday that he is keen on making the deal happen.
"Sol is one signing that might possibly happen here," Hughton said. "He's still got a lot to offer the game and, although he'll get a lot of offers, I wouldn't rule him coming to Newcastle out."
