• Fergie to avoid censure

Rooney appeared to mouth the words "12th man" at a television camera following a match in which United's players and manager were infuriated by a number of refereeing decisions.

John Terry avoided punishment for an apparent foul on Antonio Valencia in the penalty area at Stamford Bridge while Martin Atkinson's decision to award Chelsea a free-kick following Darren Fletcher's challenge on Ashley Cole was also contentious.

Furthermore, from the set piece, Didier Drogba was in an offside position when attempting to stab home a header from Terry that eluded Edwin van der Sar for the only goal of the game, but the striker was deemed not to have interfered with play.

As he trudged off the pitch, Rooney appeared to suggest that Atkinson had favoured Chelsea with his decisions by making a pointed comment to the watching public.

An FA spokesman said: "Wayne Rooney has been warned as to his future conduct following remarks made yesterday."

Despite strongly criticising Atkinson following the game, it is believed that Ferguson will also escape punishment for his own post-match comments.
