The hosts had started brightly but fell behind when Wayne Srhoj fired home a superb long-range free-kick in the 69th minute.

However, Phoenix earned a point when Adrian Caceres' 82nd-minute strike was deflected by Tando Velaphi into the path of Paul Ifil and the former Millwall and Crystal Palace forward made no mistake to slot home.

The point sees Phoenix in sixth place in the standings and well in the hunt for a play-off place with Perth one point and one place above them.

Meanwhile, North Queensland Fury's five-match unbeaten run was brought to an end as Newcastle Jets eased to a 2-0 win at EnergyAustralia Stadium.

Goalkeeper Paul Henderson made a number of saves but he was unable to keep the hosts at bay as Matt Thompson opened the scoring in the 55th minute.

Former Leeds and Sunderland forward Michael Bridges then sealed the win when he fired home from the penalty spot with five minutes remaining.
