Sol Campbell: Eager to play again

Campbell has complained bitterly that Notts County tried to gag him, first for five years and now until the end of the season, and yet Notts County's Sven Goran Eriksson is free to criticise him.

The former England centre-half is livid that Eriksson is now making derogatory remarks.

Campbell made his controversial exit from Meadow Lane in September. His departure brought back memories of his walk-out at Arsenal in 2006 - when he left Highbury at half-time as the Gunners were beaten by West Ham.

Magpies director of football Eriksson revealed: "There was lots of enthusiasm at first but he didn't want to play.

"I felt awful. He always behaved very well and took care of the younger players but left in the middle of a training session. I planned to meet him after the session but he didn't come. He still has not phoned me about it."

But Campbell was in bullish mood as he responded on Wednesday.

"I didn't walk out half way through the training session, I had a hamstring injury," Campbell said. "But it is true that I haven't spoken with Sven since. Why should I? He got me involved in something that has turned out to be a complete mess.

"How can I be sure that the deal that Sven encouraged me to sign is a proper one? We shall find out when the facts are presented to the Football league.

"Gordon Taylor has been brilliant, and both he and my lawyer have lodged an official complaint to the Football League today. Now the truth will come out there."

Campbell fancies joining Newcastle but cannot sign for another side until County release his registration - the subject of ongoing negotiation.
