UAE defending champions Al Ahli sack coach

Defending champions Al Ahli have sacked Ioan Andone as coach following a poor run of results in the UAE League.

The 49-year-old coach will be succeeded by Mahdi Ali, who led the United Arab Emirates youth team to the quarter-finals of the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Egypt last month.

Al Ahli have registered only one win in the UAE League this season and suffered three defeats and they currently occupy 10th place in the 12-team table.

Ali, who previously coached the youth team of Al Ahli, will lead the team against Al Nasr at the start of round six of the league on Friday.

Dubai-based Al Ahli came to the attention of world football earlier this year when a friendly with Premier League club Chelsea erupted into an all-in brawl.
