Fury keen to sign Daal to longer deal
North Queensland are set to lock Netherlands Antilles international Dyron Daal up for the rest of the A-League season in a boost to the improving Fury's growing playoff hopes.Fury coach Ian Ferguson revealed on Thursday the club were close to signing their second-half strike weapon as a full-time injury replacement for Scott Wilson.Attacking midfielder Daal has made an impact since originally linking with the club on the first of two short-term contracts last month, but with defender Karl Dodd due back soon, his time in Townsville is due to end in a fortnight.Ferguson announced his desire to keep Daal for the rest of the competition after he scored a match-winner with a blazing strike against Perth Glory which earned goal of the round plaudits.Although the club has a major need to bolster their defence with key recruits Wilson and Shane Stefanutto out for the season with knee injuries, the coach has showed faith in the 26-year-old and his current backline, which started as a makeshift back four.Ferguson will trial two unnamed foreign defenders, from France and Thailand, next week with a view to signing one as Stefanutto's injury replacement."We will try and get one in at a time because I don't like having too many triallists at the one time," he said in Townsville.Ferguson is already wrestling with a selection dilemma with striker Daniel McBreen available to return from hamstring and calf strains against third-placed Gold Coast on Saturday night.McBreen's injury pushed David Williams from the wing into the centre and promoted Jason Spagnuolo onto the wing."Normally I don't like changing a winning team but when I've got players coming back who will make it stronger I'll consider that," he said.McBreen got through his first training session in almost a fortnight on Thursday morning before declaring himself fit."I might give the gaffer a couple of dollars to change the team," he said.Since NQ lost their first three games of the season, including a 5-0 loss to the Coast, they have won two, drawn six and lost one in the following nine to be four points off the top six.
