Manchester City have apparently told Tottenham that they will not be signing David Bentley either on a permanent basis or a loan.

The winger is out of favour at Spurs.

The winger's future at White Hart Lane remains unclear after slipping out of favour under manager Harry Redknapp, who criticised him after his recent arrest for drink driving and appears to favour the pace of Aaron Lennon on the right of midfield.

The 25-year-old has played just five minutes of Premier League football this term and has been linked with City, Aston Villa and Everton, although it now seems he'll be staying at Spurs.

Mark Hughes declared last week that City's summer spending spree had finished following their big-money capture of Joleon Lescott.
