Policeman jailed for killing Lazio fan

July 14, 2009

An Italian policeman was sentenced to six years in prison on Tuesday for killing a Lazio supporter two years ago.

Lazio fans in the Arezzo court reacted angrily to the verdict after prosecutors had asked for a 14-year sentence.

Luigi Spaccarotella shot dead Gabriele Sandri at a service station following a scuffle between Lazio and Juventus fans in Nov. 2007, prompting riots by Lazio supporters in Rome and a general crackdown on Italian football hooliganism.
