Hughes confirms Man City talks with Adebayor

Manchester City manager Mark Hughes has confirmed that the Eastlands club are in talks with Arsenal over the proposed transfer of Togo striker Emmanuel Adebayor.

Speaking at the official unveiling of new signing, Carlos Tevez, Hughes revealed that contact had been made between the two clubs, but he was reluctant to go into details.

Hughes said: "I think there's been discussions between ourselves and Arsenal but, as is my usual response about players that we haven't signed, really it's not the right time or place to discuss that - only in as much as, yes, there has been contact."

"There's a deal to be done possibly but it's not been concluded as we speak. Until it actually happens, really it's not the time or the place to discuss it here."

But given reports that Adebayor is due in Manchester on Wednesday for a work permit hearing it would seem that the deal is already at an advanced stage.

The 25-year-old striker, who has also been linked with AC Milan and Chelsea, had a disappointing season last term but he scored 24 Premier League goals during the 2007/08 season and that is the form Hughes is hoping the forward can recapture.

Arsenal are thought to be willing to accept a bid of £25m from City, although last year the Gunners rebuffed and offer of £35m from Milan.
