Houston signs English league veteran Ade Akinbiyi

April 1, 2009

In a move designed to improved the team's offensive punch, Houston has signed striker Ade Akinbiyi. The 34-year-old Akinbiyi has played for 11 different clubs in his 16-year career, but most recently for Burnley in the English Championship.

Speaking to the club's Web site, Akinbiyi mentioned his eagerness to join the Dynamo. "To tell you the truth, I'm absolutely loving it so far," Akinbiyi said. "I've been around and seen what I needed to see, and it's just a different lifestyle. I can't wait to be here."

The English-born Akinbiyi has one international cap with Nigeria, and will occupy an international roster spot with Houston.

"Our search for a forward has been very public since the offseason," said Dynamo chief operating officer Chris Canetti. "Finally we have settled on a player who we thing will come here and bring great results. We are very happy to have him join us."
