Perth Glory have announced plans to play English Championship high-flyers Wolverhampton Wanderers in a pre-season friendly later this year.Wolves, who are managed by Mick McCarthy, the former Republic of Ireland manager whose fall-out with Roy Keane led to the former Manchester United star storming out of the 2002 World Cup, have agreed in principle to the fixture at Members Equity Stadium. The four-time FA Cup winners are currently five points clear at the top of the Championship and on course for a return to the Premiership for the first time since 2003.The Glory are hoping to receive final confirmation of the deal in the coming days, with the match to be held sometime in the latter stages of the A-League pre-season.Perth coach Dave Mitchell's strong ties with McCarthy, who signed the former Socceroo when he was manager at Millwall, helped in negotiations."I have no doubt that it will be a hard fought game but played in the right spirit," Mitchell said of the pre-season fixture."They're well managed by Mick McCarthy, who is a no nonsense bloke."I know him well and we've kept in touch so it'll be great to come up against him."I've told Mick about Perth, what a great place it is and the strength of support for football in this town."Before Wolves agreed to come, the Glory were hopeful of securing a pre-season match against English Premier League outfit Everton, who boast Australian star Tim Cahill.Wolves are expected to spend about 12 days in Perth, taking on the Glory and possibly a WA State side."This is a watershed moment in Perth Glory's A-League history," Glory deputy chairman Lui Giuliani said."Perth Glory is committed to winning on and off the field and this is one of many successful opportunities that we're set to announce in the coming months."The Glory finished second last in the A-League last season and are yet to reach the finals since the demise of the NSL.
